Warren Greatrex, who trains him out of Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, has been quietly confident about this horse since picking him up as part of a batch of four young horses from France. His first win came at Doncaster in late November 2025, by 12 lengths — not a narrow scrape, but a demolition job that immediately suggested Aqua Bleu was operating well within himself. The yard, which has sent out 50 winners this season alone, clearly knows how to place a horse, and Aqua Bleu has delivered at Class 4 level with a 75% win rate: 3 wins from 4 races at that tier.
What makes the most recent win especially telling is the context around it. When Aqua Bleu won at Chepstow in February, the ground was wet and muddy — conditions Greatrex freely admitted don't suit him. He was also carrying a double penalty, which in simple terms means he was giving a weight advantage to every rival in the race as punishment for winning twice before. Harder ground, more weight, unfavourable conditions — and he still won. Greatrex's post-race description of the moment jockey Sean gave him a kick and he simply took off says a lot about a horse that doesn't just have talent, but genuine desire.
The trainer has already flagged that Aqua Bleu will be stepping up to jump fences rather than hurdles in time, and seems in no hurry to rush that transition. With a career still in its early chapters, a yard firing on all cylinders, and a horse that apparently handles adversity better than ideal conditions, the trajectory here looks steep. Five races in, Aqua Bleu is already making a compelling case that the best is nowhere near done yet.
