That one win, though, came at Thirsk in August 2025, and it's worth noting because Thirsk will mean something to this horse now. Certain horses just click with certain tracks — the shape of the bends, the way the ground rides, something intangible — and Ancient Myth clearly found something it liked there. Whether that win was a breakthrough or a one-off is the question everyone connected to the yard will be asking on its return.

And a return it very much is. Ancient Myth hasn't raced for 189 days — a full six months off the track. That's a significant absence, and it cuts both ways. A horse can come back fresher, sharper, ready to build on what it achieved. It can also come back ring-rusty, needing a run to find its rhythm again. The honest answer is nobody knows which version turns up until the stalls open.

What we do know is that the trainer, David O'Meara, is one of the most prolific yards in the north of England, having sent out 100 winners already this season. That's a serious operation, and horses don't get 13 chances at a yard like that without showing something in training. O'Meara's team clearly believes there's more to come from this horse. The recent form line — a win, then a second, then a blank run, and a pair of mid-field finishes since — tells the story of a horse that briefly looked like it was putting things together before things went quiet.

At Class 4, the level where Ancient Myth has done most of its racing, the record reads zero wins from seven attempts. That's the honest context. This isn't a horse with a big career on the clock or a string of big-race entries. It's a quiet project from a busy northern yard, coming back off a break with one career win to its name. Sometimes that's all it takes to build something — the question is whether Thirsk in August was the foundation, or simply a footnote.
