The numbers get more interesting when you look at where and how those wins have come. Something about the place suits this horse, whether it is the shape of the track, the ground it tends to produce, or something harder to explain. Four wins from 15 races at distances between a mile and six furlongs and two miles also tells you this is not a sprinter — Ambassador finds its best form when there is a bit of a test of stamina involved.

The partnership with jockey Joshua Thompson is worth noting too. Together they have won 4 of their 18 races — roughly 1 in every 4 and a half — which is a meaningfully better return than Ambassador's overall record. That kind of consistency with a single rider usually points to a genuine working relationship where both horse and jockey have learned to trust each other.

Ambassador competes almost exclusively at Class 5, which sits at the lower end of the racing ladder, and has won 6 of 24 races at that level — 1 in every 4. The last win came at Cartmel in August 2025, so it has now gone 10 months and 6 races without getting back to the winner's enclosure. The recent form figures — positions of 9, 8, and 6 in its last three completed outings — suggest it is not firing at the moment. With Hammond's yard in decent shape this season, sending out 25 winners, the support is there. Ambassador just needs to find its way back to a track it loves, at a distance that suits it, and remind everyone what it can do.
