Alpha Capture

The horse's best moment came in October 2022 when it won a top-level Class 1 race at York, just two months after recording its first career success at Carlisle. That suggests Alpha Capture can handle the big occasion, but the track record since tells a different story. At the highest competitive level — Class 2 races — the horse has not won in six attempts, a sobering statistic that hints the jump in class has been too steep. The pattern is clearest over its preferred distances of five to six and a half furlongs, where it has won 2 of 10 races (a 20% win rate), but even that modest success rate has dried up recently.

Recent form offers a glimmer of encouragement. Two months ago, on 14 June at Doncaster, Alpha Capture returned to the winners' circle, suggesting the horse can still deliver. Since then, however, results have been mixed: two second-place finishes and a tenth-place run in the last six outings. Tom Marquand, the horse's most regular partner, has ridden it 9 times and won twice — a respectable 22% win rate that is meaningfully better than the horse's overall average. Roger Fell's yard is in good form this season with 25 winners to its name, and Alpha Capture raced just yesterday, so it remains actively campaigned. The horse is still competing, still capable, but has yet to prove it can consistently find its way back to the winner's circle at this stage of its career.
