Horses in a productive yard sometimes take time to find their feet, and at three years old, African Gib is still at the age where improvement is genuinely possible. Some horses simply need more racing before the penny drops.

Whether that improvement is coming is the honest question. Four finishes between sixth and eighth suggest a horse that hasn't been competitive yet, rather than one that has been unlucky or just touched off. But with an active yard behind it and youth on its side, it would be premature to write African Gib off entirely. The next few races will tell a clearer story.
