That is a genuinely solid return, and it suggests a horse that needs time and space to find its rhythm rather than a sharp, sprint-style test. Ground conditions and trip matter enormously with horses like this — get them right and the picture changes completely.

The most striking number, though, belongs to Catterick Bridge. At that one track in North Yorkshire, Achnamara has won 2 of just 5 races — that is winning 40% of the time at a single venue, which is remarkable for any horse racing at this level. Tracks suit certain horses for all sorts of reasons — the shape of the bends, the camber, the way the ground drains — and Catterick clearly suits this one. The most recent win there came on 10 February 2025, so it is only 14 months ago, and it remains the freshest evidence of what Achnamara can do on a good day.

Jockey Joe Fanning has ridden the horse six times and won twice together — a win rate of 1 in 3, which is a strong partnership by any measure. The recent run of form is admittedly lean: no win in the last six races, with finishes of ninth, fifth, sixth, fourth, and eighth. But Achnamara is still active and still competitive enough to place. Philip Kirby's yard is clearly firing at the moment, and if the right conditions line up — Catterick, a decent trip, a bit of cut in the ground — this is a horse that has shown it knows exactly what to do.
