Abduction

His biggest moment came at Wolverhampton in October 2023, when he landed a Class 2 race — one of the top tier events in British racing — on the all-weather track there. That result sits at the peak of a career built largely at Class 4 level, where he has won 6 of his 32 races at that grade, a win rate of 19%, or roughly 1 in every 5 attempts. He clearly finds his feet at that level, and normal ground suits him best: 3 wins from 13 races on standard conditions, a 23% rate, meaning he wins nearly 1 in 4 when the turf is playing fair.

Abduction is trained by Jim Goldie at Uplawmoor in Lanarkshire — a yard that has sent out 88 winners this season alone, which tells you something about the operation's efficiency. Goldie took him on recently from another trainer, and his first two runs for the yard were both over seven furlongs. The second of those, at Doncaster, was particularly noteworthy — Goldie noted that Abduction is a horse who needs the race run at a proper end-to-end gallop, and when Doncaster turned into a dawdle-and-sprint affair, he still only lost by a length and a half. For a horse whose whole style depends on pace being set from the front, that was a seriously encouraging effort in disguise.

His most regular partner in the saddle is Paul Mulrennan, who has ridden him in 16 races for 2 wins together — a 12% win rate, or roughly 1 in 8. The most recent win came at Musselburgh in April 2026, just three months ago, so the well has not run dry. His last six finishes — a string of thirds, then a slide toward the back — suggest he may be waiting for the right conditions rather than fading away. He raced just yesterday, which means the team is keeping him busy and believing there is more to come.
