Zumbi

The 47 months since that Cartmel victory tell their own story. Zumbi has gone six races without winning, and while recent form shows a pair of fourth-place finishes, there have also been some blanks in between. It raced just yesterday, so clearly remains in work and is being kept busy by the Moffatt yard, which has had a productive season with 11 winners sent out so far — a sign that the stable is in decent form even if Zumbi hasn't been the one contributing to that tally.

Charlotte Jones partners Zumbi more than anyone else, the two having teamed up 10 times together for that single win — a rate of roughly 1 in every 10 races. Most of Zumbi's racing has come at Class 4 level, which sits in the mid-to-lower tier of the sport, and at that level it has won 1 from 6 attempts, or about 1 in every 6 races — actually its best win rate at any class, suggesting it is placed where the yard believe it belongs. The story of Zumbi is ultimately one of a horse that had its day in the Lake District sunshine, has kept showing up, and keeps giving its the yard reasons to try again.
