What makes this worth watching, though, is who is doing the training. Michael Dods, based at Piercebridge in County Durham, has sent out 43 winners already this season — that is a yard firing on all cylinders. Dods has a reputation for placing horses shrewdly and improving them over time, so the fact that Ziggy Bay has raced only three times at the age of three suggests there is still plenty of development ahead. Young horses often need time and experience before everything clicks, and three races is a very small sample.
Ziggy Bay ran just yesterday, so it is very much an active, in-training horse with more opportunities to come. Whether this season brings a first win remains to be seen, but landing in a strong yard gives it a better chance than most of finding the right race at the right moment.
