On anything softer or muddier, he becomes a different horse entirely, and his recent form underlines the point. His last victory came at Sandown Park on 14 June 2025 — 16 months ago — and in his most recent six races he has been nowhere near the winner's enclosure, finishing 11th, 4th, 4th, 6th, 8th and 8th. Luke Dace, his trainer at Billingshurst in West Sussex, clearly knows where Youthful King's sweet spot is; the challenge is waiting for the ground to suit and for a Windsor race meeting to come along. Jack Dace, who has ridden him 15 times, has won just twice in the saddle on this horse, suggesting that the jockey is not the limiting factor here. With the horse still active and still capable on his day, any future victory will almost certainly depend on one thing above all: a dry track and ideally a meeting at Windsor.
