Roscommon is a relaxed, galloping track in the west of Ireland that suits horses who stay well and travel through a race rather than sprinting, so it is no coincidence that Young Churchill's best performances tend to come over longer distances. Over one mile six furlongs to two miles, he has won 1 from 8 races — a 12% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 8 attempts — which is noticeably better than his overall record. Strip the shorter-distance races away, and you start to see a horse who has a type of race that suits him.

He is trained by Richard John O'Brien out of Ballingarry in County Limerick, a yard that has sent out five winners already this season, showing it is in decent shape. Young Churchill raced just one day ago, so he is clearly being kept busy, and the team evidently believes there is a race to be won with him somewhere. The task now is finding it — ideally back over those longer distances, and perhaps back at a track like Roscommon where he has already shown he can get the job done.
