To put those numbers in context: finishing in the top three earns a place, and Yesnia has not managed that once across six attempts. The closest it has come is seventh, twice. That kind of consistency in the wrong direction suggests this is a horse still finding its feet, and at three years old there is at least time on its side — many horses this age are still working out what racing is actually about.
Carroll himself is no journeyman. His yard has sent out 24 winners already this season, which tells you this is a competent, active stable that knows how to get horses ready to run. The fact that Yesnia has raced six times without troubling the judge is not a reflection on the yard's ability — some horses simply take longer to click, and plenty have turned their form around after a slow start. Yesnia ran just one day ago, so whatever is coming next, this is clearly a horse being kept busy and given every opportunity to find its way.
There is nothing here yet to write home about, but the story is not finished. A yard firing out 24 winners does not give up easily.
