That said, context matters here. Two races is a very small sample — plenty of horses take time to find their feet, and a finishing position alone tells you little about how much was learned or how competitive the field was. What does offer genuine encouragement is who has the horse in their care. Richard Spencer's yard in Newmarket has sent out 30 winners already this season, which is a healthy, productive operation by any measure. Newmarket is the heartland of British flat racing, and trainers based there tend to have access to strong work riders, quality gallops, and a deep well of experience. Spencer clearly knows how to get horses to win races — the question is whether Yazoo can be one of them.
Still only 3 years old and with just two races behind it, the book on Yazoo is very much still being written.
