What does give genuine cause for optimism is who is overseeing the project. Archie Watson is one of the sharper trainers operating out of Upper Lambourn, and his yard has been in seriously good form this season, sending out 64 winners. That is the kind of output that tells you horses in that stable are being placed well and arriving fit to run their best. Yasalam raced just yesterday, so Watson clearly believes there is more to come from this horse in the near term.

Two races is a very small sample. Plenty of horses need a few runs to figure out what is being asked of them, and a young 3-year-old trained by someone with Watson's current momentum is worth keeping an eye on. The wins haven't arrived yet, but the story is still being written.
