Trained by Mrs C Williams at her yard in Llancarfan in the Vale of Glamorgan, the horse ran just yesterday, so the yard — sorry, the team — will be processing that fifth-place effort in real time. Williams has sent out 3 winners this season, which tells you this is a small but functioning operation that knows how to get horses to the track and win races. Whether Worksmartnothard can be one of those winners further down the line remains to be seen.
One race is simply too small a sample to draw conclusions from. A fifth-place finish on debut can mean a lot of things — inexperience, a bad day, not quite ready — or it can mean exactly what it looks like. The name alone suggests someone in the yard has a sense of humour. The horse now needs to go away, come back, and show something more.
