The recent form makes for tough reading. Looking at the last six races, the best effort is a fourth-place finish, sandwiched between a string of results deep in the field — seventh, twelfth, seventeenth, and twelfth again. That sequence suggests a horse that is finding it hard to land a blow even in the races it is entered for. Liam Quinlan has partnered Work Place five times without managing a win, and while a jockey can only do so much with the material beneath them, that partnership has yet to click in any meaningful way.
To Hackett's credit, his yard has sent out four winners this season, so the operation is capable of getting horses to the track in winning form. Work Place, raced just yesterday and clearly still active, simply hasn't been one of them. At seven, horses are well past the stage where improvement is routinely expected — what you see is largely what you get. Whether the team perseveres in search of a race that suits, or starts to ask harder questions about where this horse belongs, the clock is ticking.
