That said, two races is an incredibly small sample size. Some horses take time to find their feet, and the fact that Wooloongabba raced just one day ago means the team clearly believes there is something still worth exploring. The horse is trained by John C McConnell at his yard in Stamullen, County Meath, and that yard has sent out 36 winners already this season — so this is no backwater operation struggling to get horses fit. McConnell knows what a decent horse looks like, and he is still running this one.

The honest truth is that the record right now does not make for encouraging reading. But with only two races to go on and an active campaign underway, Wooloongabba is very much a work in progress. Whether the penny drops and the performances improve is the question worth watching.
