Wish This

Ten months have passed since that last success, and the dry spell shows in recent form. Of the last six outings, Wish This has managed only one place finish (a second at an unspecified course) but otherwise found the frame difficult, with efforts ranging from fifth to ninth. The horse is clearly still competing regularly — it raced just a day ago — but the gap between that November triumph and now suggests the going has got tougher, or the races pitched at a slightly higher level have been beyond reach. Trained by Alan Brown's yard at Yedingham in North Yorkshire, a stable running productively this season with ten winners already, Wish This remains a work in progress, the type of honest sprinter that will occasionally find the right race and the right conditions, just not consistently enough to build real momentum. For the yard hoping for another breakthrough, it will come down to picking the right spot — Class 5 sprints appear to be where the wins lie.
