Wiltshire Wonder

Southwell is an all-weather track in Nottinghamshire, and certain horses simply take to its surface in a way that defies easy explanation. Wiltshire Wonder appears to be one of them. The most recent win there came on 20 December 2024, and while that is now 18 months ago, the horse is still active — it raced just yesterday — so the question of whether it can rediscover that Southwell magic is very much a live one.

The yard behind the horse is Bernard Llewellyn's small operation in Fochriw, Mid Glamorgan, a training base that does not attract many headlines but has quietly sent out 12 winners this season. That is a meaningful output for a yard of its size, and it suggests Llewellyn knows how to place his horses in races they can win. Most of Wiltshire Wonder's races have come at Class 4 level — the middle tier of British racing, a step below the big occasions — where it has won just 1 from 7, or roughly 1 in 7, which tells you the competition at that level has generally had the better of it.

Luke Morris has been in the saddle for 5 of those 13 races, winning once together — a 1-in-5 record, or 20%, which is a reasonable partnership without being a defining one. Recent form has been patchy: the last six results read 5-10-5-9-1-6, meaning two mid-pack finishes, two at the back, one win, and one near the back. The picture that emerges is a horse that finds its best days unpredictably, but when it does — particularly at Southwell — it is worth watching. Keep an eye on the entries.
