The recent form makes for interesting reading. After a pair of seventh-place finishes mid-sequence, Whitesnake has come storming back with two third-place results in its last two outings, suggesting the horse is finding its feet and moving in the right direction. It raced just yesterday, which tells you this is a horse currently in the thick of its campaign rather than one being wrapped in cotton wool.

Behind the scenes, Whitesnake is trained by Roger Teal at his yard in Lambourn, Berkshire — one of the great centres of British racing, a village where serious horses and serious trainers tend to congregate. Teal has sent out 22 winners already this season, which is a yard firing on all cylinders. When a trainer is that busy finding winners, it suggests the horses in the barn are well-placed and ready to run — so Whitesnake being in the mix at all is not nothing.
