The partnership with jockey Paddy Bradley has been given a fair chance to click, with five races together and nothing to show for it yet in the winner's enclosure. That said, five races is not a huge sample, and horses and jockeys can take time to find their rhythm. The bigger question is whether Whiskey Sunrise has the ability to win at any level, because it has been running mostly in Class 6 — the lowest tier of British racing, the kind of races designed specifically to give horses like this a chance — and has come up short in all four of those attempts.
Trainer Max Comley, based in Warminster, Wiltshire, is clearly no stranger to winners. His yard has sent out 18 this season, which shows he knows how to get a horse ready to perform. That makes Whiskey Sunrise something of a puzzle — it is not as though it is sitting in a yard that lacks the knowhow. Sometimes a horse simply needs time, or the right conditions, or just one race where everything falls into place. Whiskey Sunrise has not found that race yet, but at four years old, it is not ancient, and its the yard will be hoping the penny drops sooner rather than later.
