Trained by Kevin Philippart De Foy at Newmarket, What A Girl Wants is part of a yard firing on all cylinders this season. De Foy's team has already sent out 40 winners, which means she's surrounded by horses that know how to win races — and that environment matters. Her last three outings especially show a horse capable of running at a decent level: back-to-back second and third-place finishes prove she can sit with better horses and stay competitive. At two, most horses are still figuring out what they're doing on a racetrack, so finishing in the placings this consistently is no small thing. She hasn't broken through yet, but the gaps look closeable, and with an active yard and a jockey that clearly knows how to get the best out of her, a first win shouldn't be far away.
