Western Bandit

The recent form figures make for interesting reading. A run just one day ago is the freshest entry on the card, and working backwards through the last six races you can see a mix of double-digit finishes and a third place that suggests Western Bandit is capable of putting in a decent performance when things fall right. The challenge is consistency — the wide spread of finishing positions, from third to fifteenth, points to a horse still finding its feet at this level.

Western Bandit is trained by Anthony Mullins, who operates out of Gowran in County Kilkenny. The yard has been in decent nick this season, sending out 9 winners, which tells you this is a team that knows how to get a horse ready to win. That makes Western Bandit something of an anomaly in the string — a horse that hasn't yet repaid the faith placed in it, but one that clearly has enough about it to keep being campaigned. With two places already on the board and a run as recently as yesterday, the team clearly believes there is a race to be won with this horse somewhere down the line. Whether Western Bandit can deliver on that belief is the question worth watching.
