The horse is still actively competing, most recently running just a day ago, and trades consistently at Class 4 level (the middle tier of British racing), where it has collected places but no wins from 11 attempts. Henry Brooke, its most frequent rider, has partnered it 11 times without a breakthrough either. What's telling about Wearelongterm's recent form is its persistence: in the last six races it has run, it has picked up two third-place finishes and two fifth-place efforts, suggesting it remains capable of running well on its day. The gaps between runs have been typical — nothing dramatic, nothing alarming, just a horse that keeps getting another chance.

Trained by Dianne Sayer at Hackthorpe in Cumbria, Wearelongterm runs for a yard that has already sent out 15 winners this season, so the team clearly knows how to train horses to victory. Sometimes, though, not every horse in a successful yard finds that breakthrough moment. At nine years old, Wearelongterm is solidly in the middle of its career, still sound enough to race regularly and still willing to try. Whether a win ever comes is unknowable, but the horse's record shows it belongs on a racetrack and keeps giving its the yard a reason to saddle it up.
