War Correspondent

Trained by R P Cody out of Dunnamaggin in County Kilkenny — a yard that has sent out six winners already this season — War Correspondent is most often partnered by Mr P J Cody, who has ridden the horse in 10 of its races and won once together. That one win in ten (10%) is slightly better than the horse's overall record, which suggests the partnership at least knows how to get the best from it.

That tells you this is a horse that wants the ground in its favour; put it on something softer or muddier and the record will likely be less encouraging.

The most recent win came at Wexford on 23 July 2025, around twelve months ago now, and the horse has not won in the six races since. The recent form figures of 4-4-3 show it finishing in the money and just off it, which is consistent with what War Correspondent does — it places, it competes, it just rarely wins. Raced as recently as yesterday, it is clearly a well-managed, durable horse in regular work. The first win came back in October 2022 at Punchestown, so this is a horse with a solid few years on the track and plenty of experience banked.

At this stage of its career, War Correspondent is the kind of reliable, honest competitor that makes up the backbone of any racing yard. It will not often top the market, but it turns up, runs consistently, and occasionally reminds everyone it can win — as it did twelve months ago at Wexford.
