Trained by Brian Ellison out of Norton in North Yorkshire, War And Love is in good hands. Ellison's yard has sent out 43 winners already this season, which is a serious operation by any measure, and you don't keep sending a horse out unless you believe there's a win in it somewhere. War And Love raced just one day ago, so this is very much a horse mid-campaign, still being tested and placed.
The recent form figures — 3, 9, 5, 2, 3 reading from most recent backwards — tell an interesting story. That second place is the one to focus on. It shows the horse can mix it at the sharp end of a race, and if the pieces fall right, a first win doesn't look far away. The level it competes at, Class 5, is the entry level of British racing, where the pressure is lower and fields tend to be more open. Winning at this level is absolutely achievable — War And Love just needs things to click on the right day.
No wins yet, but not disgraced either. Sometimes a horse takes a little longer to find its moment, and with a busy, successful yard behind it and a recent placed run on the board, there's no reason to write War And Love off just yet.
