Voice Of Northeast

The recent run of form makes for tough reading. Over the last six races, Voice Of Northeast has finished 14th, 12th, 12th, 4th, 6th, and 12th — with that solitary fourth place standing out as the only glimmer of promise in an otherwise difficult stretch. A horse finishing in the top half of the field just once in six races is not one that is quietly unlucky or nearly there; it is one that is genuinely struggling to compete at this level.

Jockey Rian Lane has been in the saddle for six of those runs and is yet to get a tune out of the horse, with no wins from their six races together. That is not necessarily a criticism of either horse or rider — some partnerships simply haven't clicked, and Lane will know better than most how hard Voice Of Northeast has tried.

Trainer Terence O'Brien, based in Carrigtoohill in County Cork, is clearly no stranger to winners — his yard has sent out 10 this season, which shows the operation knows what it takes to get a horse to the front. The fact that Voice Of Northeast hasn't joined that list yet suggests the horse may need things to fall perfectly into place, whether that's the right race, the right ground conditions, or simply more time to find its feet.

Raced as recently as yesterday, Voice Of Northeast is an active runner, and O'Brien clearly believes there is a race to be won somewhere down the line. Whether that faith is rewarded remains to be seen — but for now, this is a horse whose story is still very much being written, even if the early chapters have been a long exercise in patience.
