Vixey

Chester is clearly her favourite track. She has won two of her six races there, and her most recent victory came on 12 September 2025, nearly 13 months ago now. That kind of course specialisation is common in racing — some horses just run better on particular layouts — and it's the sort of thing a trainer and jockey will remember. She also prefers normal ground conditions, winning three of her 11 races on it (27%), compared to her overall win rate of roughly one in seven. Trainer Simon West's yard at Middleham, in North Yorkshire, has backed her consistently, and the partnership with jockey Aiden Brookes has been particularly successful: they've combined for four wins from 16 races together, a 25% win rate that suggests they know how to get the best out of her.

The frustration is that Vixey hasn't won in her last six races. Her recent form reads 2-4-5-3-12-2 — two second-place finishes bookending some wider efforts, which tells the story of a horse knocking on the door but not quite getting over the line. She raced just a day ago and is still actively campaigned, so there's every chance she could rediscover that winning feeling, particularly if West and Brookes can engineer a return to Chester or wait for normal ground at another favoured track.
