What makes the situation a little more complex is where the yard has been pitching it. Three of its races have come at Class 2 level — some of the better races in Britain — and it has yet to win at that grade, going 0 from 3. That's not a disgrace, but it does raise the question of whether stepping back down in class might unlock something. Tim Easterby's operation at Great Habton in North Yorkshire is no small outfit: 128 winners already this season tells you this is a yard that knows how to get horses ready to win. If Under The Radar hasn't fired, it probably isn't through lack of preparation.

Regular jockey David Allan has been in the saddle for half of its career races — 6 in total — and they've won together once, which works out to roughly 1 in every 6 rides. That's actually a decent ratio given the horse's overall record, and it suggests the partnership is as good a bet as any for finding that elusive second win. The horse raced just yesterday and is clearly being kept busy, which is often a sign a trainer believes there's a race to be won somewhere in the near future. Whether Under The Radar can find it is the question — but with Easterby pulling the strings, it's probably not worth writing it off just yet.
