Uncertainty

The recent form tells an interesting story. Wind the clock back six races and Uncertainty was finishing 14th — well beaten and seemingly going nowhere. But then came a second place, which suggested something had clicked, or at least that conditions had suited. Since then it has been fourth, eighth, and seventh in its last three outings, which is a little frustrating — close enough to suggest ability, not close enough to suggest a win is imminent. Raced just one day ago, this is a horse very much in the thick of its season right now.

At Class 5 level — the entry-level tier of British racing — Uncertainty has gone 0 from 3, which means it has not yet won even at the easiest grade it has tackled. That is the honest truth of where things stand. Simon Whitaker's yard has sent out three winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse to the front — Uncertainty just hasn't been the one to do it yet. Whether this horse eventually finds its moment, or whether those placed finishes are as good as it gets, remains genuinely open. For now, the name feels entirely appropriate.
