Those two wins both came in a tight window — Taunton in late November 2024, then Wincanton on Boxing Day the same year. That is a nice double over the winter festivals, and it tells you something about when this horse is at its best. The ground matters enormously: on soft or slightly cut-up ground, Ugo Bingo has won 2 of 6 races, which is roughly one in every three attempts. That is a genuinely strong record. On faster ground, the form dries up entirely. If the rain comes, this horse becomes a different proposition.

The current run of six races without a win stretches back 19 months now, and recent form of 5-4-7-7-4-6 suggests a horse that occasionally threatens but cannot quite find an extra gear when it counts. Most of that recent work has been done in partnership with Brendan Powell, who has ridden Ugo Bingo nine times without getting off the mark together — not a combination that has clicked yet. The yard itself is in fine health, having sent out 52 winners this season, so the platform is there if Ugo Bingo finds the right conditions.

A horse earning a career at this level is doing what most racehorses do: competing honestly, placing often enough to justify the runs, waiting for the right day. With wet ground, a trip between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, and a Boxing Day on the calendar, Ugo Bingo has shown it knows exactly what to do.
