What we do know is that the breeding is eye-catching. Tzaritza is by Starman, a horse who was one of the fastest sprinters in Europe during his racing days, and is out of a mare by More Than Ready, a sire with an excellent record for producing quick, precocious youngsters who hit the ground running early in their careers. On paper, that combination points towards a horse built for speed.
The trainer is Archie Watson, whose yard at Upper Lambourn in West Berkshire has sent out 65 winners already this season — a genuinely impressive total that puts it among the more productive stables in the country. When a first-time runner comes from a yard operating at that kind of volume and confidence, it is worth paying attention. Watson has a track record of placing young horses well and knowing when they are ready to run.
Beyond that, the rest is down to Tzaritza herself. A debut is exactly what it sounds like — a beginning. Today is simply about finding out what she is.
