Two To Tango

Trainer Emma Lavelle's yard at Ogbourne Maizey in Wiltshire has had a strong season, sending out 44 winners, but Two To Tango has been a puzzle. When Lavelle assessed him nearly two years ago, she felt he had shown promise in his early races but struggled with the demanding finish that top-level racing requires. She believed he had the engine for longer distances and would improve once he found his level. That prediction has only partly come true. At Class 4 level — solid middle-ground racing — he has never won, managing only places from 12 attempts. Tom Bellamy, his regular rider, has found no luck either, with five rides aboard bringing no victories.

What keeps Two To Tango running, race after race, is precisely what makes him interesting: he shows up, competes, and finishes in the money often enough to justify another chance. Over five months without a win, he keeps placing, a horse for patient stables and patient owners who understand that some animals are built to compete rather than dominate. At eight years old and still actively racing, he remains a genuine trier — just one that will need everything to fall right to reach the winner's circle again.
