Context matters here, though. The Fahey yard is no backwater operation — they have sent out 23 winners already this season, which tells you this is a team that knows how to get a horse ready to win. Twilight Serenade has spent most of its time competing at Class 6, which is the entry level of British racing, so this is not a horse being thrown in at the deep end. Three races at that level, zero wins. At some point a trainer has to decide whether the horse simply needs more time, a different trip, or a change of tactics — and with nine races in the book on a three-year-old, those conversations will be happening.
Having raced just one day ago, Twilight Serenade is very much still active and the story is not over. Plenty of horses take time to click, and the Fahey team clearly believe there is something worth persevering with. But right now, every race adds another line to a record that has yet to offer much encouragement.
