Turpin is trained by Jim Boyle at Epsom in Surrey, a yard that has sent out 24 winners this season, so the stable clearly knows how to get horses winning. That makes Turpin something of an outlier in an otherwise productive operation. Boyle is working with a horse that has run three times at its typical level — Class 4, which is mid-tier racing — and drawn a blank each time. At that level, a horse with real ability should eventually find a way through. So far, Turpin hasn't.
What makes this worth watching, oddly, is how recently active the horse is — it raced just one day ago, meaning the team is clearly still working through the puzzle rather than giving up on it. Sometimes horses take time to figure out, and yards with Boyle's current form tend to know when to persist and when to move on. For now, Turpin is getting every chance to prove it belongs.
