The colt broke through at Beverley in July, claiming its first win on debut or very early in its career. That kind of quick success matters. Since then it has raced three more times, with last outing showing an unplaced effort, a place, and most recently an eleventh-place finish just a day ago. The form dips in and out, which is normal for a young horse still developing. It has been three months since that win at Beverley, so the team is keeping it active and racing it regularly rather than laying it away.
Tropical Crown is trained by K. R. Burke, a Coverham-based yard in North Yorkshire that has already sent out 145 winners this season — a serious operation. The training setup clearly believes in the horse enough to keep it in regular work and racing. Whether Tropical Crown goes on to better things will depend on how it matures over the next year, but early career form of one win from three races puts it ahead of many of its peers at this stage.
