On the breeding side, Triple P is by Mattmu out of a mare by Marju, two names that will mean little to most people but suggest a horse built for speed over shorter distances. Whether that translates to the track is the question that today's race is designed to answer.
What is worth paying attention to is the trainer. Tim Easterby operates out of Great Habton in North Yorkshire, and his yard has sent out 128 winners already this season — a number that reflects a big, busy, and clearly effective operation. When a stable of that size and output sends out a first-time runner, they tend to have a reasonable idea of what they have on their hands. That does not guarantee anything, but it is a decent starting point for a horse with everything still to prove.
