The recent record tells the most interesting story. Of Trefor's last six races, three have been wins — a remarkable return given the level this horse competes at. Those weren't soft touches either. Both the Ripon win in June and the York win in August 2025 came at Class 2 level, meaning two of the better-quality races you'll find in Britain outside the very top tier. Winning back-to-back races at that standard in the space of two months suggests a horse that hit peak form at exactly the right moment. The flip side of that sequence is a 17th-place finish somewhere in the mix — a reminder that Trefor isn't flawless, and that this form can be streaky.

Then came the break. Trefor hasn't raced in roughly six months, and that gap always raises questions. Some horses return fresh and fire straight away; others need a run or two to find their rhythm. Charles Hills, the Lambourn trainer responsible for Trefor's preparation, has had a productive season — 32 winners so far — so there's no reason to doubt the horse will be well-prepared. But six months is six months, and only the race itself will tell us whether Trefor has come back in the same condition it left.

One other thing worth knowing: Windsor is this horse's happy place. Two wins from five races there, including that first career victory back in August 2023. That's a 40% win rate at a single track — winning 2 in every 5 races at Windsor compared to 1 in 5 across its Class 2 races generally. Horses do develop genuine affinities with certain courses, and Windsor's unique turning, figure-of-eight layout suits certain running styles perfectly. If Trefor lines up there again, that record alone makes it worth paying attention to. The talent is clearly there. The only real unknown now is what six months away has done to it.
