That win, though, was genuinely impressive. On 20 August 2025 at York — one of the most prestigious tracks in Britain — Trefor landed a Class 2 race, which puts him in the top tier of competition outside the very grandest occasions. He had done the same thing at Ripon just two months earlier, also at Class 2 level. Two top-level wins in the space of two months over summer 2025 suggests a horse who was in the form of his life during that spell. He has since raced once, finishing 14th, so the question now is whether he can rediscover that peak.
He was trained by Charles Hills, based at the famous racing village of Lambourn in Berkshire, and the yard has been in fine shape this season — 29 winners is a serious tally and suggests horses are leaving that stable ready to run. Trefor first announced himself at Windsor back in August 2023, and he has made that track something of a personal favourite, winning twice from six visits there. Winning at the same course repeatedly is no accident — some horses simply take to a particular track's layout and rhythm — and his record at Windsor marks him out as one to follow whenever he heads back there.
At Class 2 level, where he has spent most of his career, he has won 2 from 10 races — exactly 20%, or 1 in every 5. For that grade of competition, that is a respectable return. Trefor is not the most consistent horse in training, but when everything clicks, he has shown he can beat good horses at good tracks. The York win is the proof of that.
