Trawlerman

Ascot seems to bring something special out of him. He has raced there eight times and won three of them, including back-to-back victories at the track in October 2023 and October 2025, with another win there in June 2025 sandwiched in between. There is something almost territorial about it — he clearly loves the place, and the crowds there have had plenty of reason to cheer him home. For context, winning even once at Ascot at the top level is an achievement most racehorses never come close to. Winning three times there puts Trawlerman in genuinely rare company.

His recent form is as good as it gets. In his last six races, he has won four and finished second once and fifth once — that solitary fifth is the only blemish on a run of form that has included top-level wins at Sandown, York, and twice at Ascot across 2025 alone. At eight years old, most horses are starting to slow down, but Trawlerman appears completely unbothered by that convention. He raced just yesterday, which tells you everything about his durability and the confidence the Gosden yard has in him.

That yard — John and Thady Gosden, operating out of Newmarket — has sent out 140 winners this season alone, so this is not a horse getting lucky in a quiet corner of the sport. He is one of the best horses in one of the best operations in British racing. When William Buick is in the saddle, the results are even more impressive: four wins from seven rides together, winning at a rate of roughly 4 in every 7. That kind of partnership, at this level, is something worth watching every time they line up.
