Tradewinds

The recent form tells an interesting story. In the last six races, Tradewinds has come home second and third twice each, plus a sixth and a tenth—the kind of mixed results you see from a horse that has the ability to run well but hasn't quite figured out how to win. That second-place finish just four days ago suggests there is not much separating this horse from the winners' enclosure. Tradewinds is trained by Donnacha Aidan O'Brien at Ballyroe in County Tipperary, a yard that has already sent out 31 winners this season, so the horse is at least in capable hands with a trainer who knows how to get horses across the line.

At two years old, Tradewinds still has time to learn the business. Some horses need more experience than others before the win comes, and finishing second and third repeatedly is not a disaster—it shows the horse is competitive and running in the right races. The question now is whether that first win arrives soon.
