Trained by Donnacha Aidan O'Brien at Ballyroe in County Tipperary, Tradewinds is part of a yard that has been in fine form this season, sending out 31 winners. That kind of output suggests a well-run operation with plenty of horses capable of winning, which in turn raises an interesting question: when the team point Tradewinds at the right opportunity, will that first win come? Three placings from four races says this horse knows what it is doing — it just needs things to fall its way.

The 3-2-3-5 record is the shape of a horse finding its feet. Placed twice, then placed again, then a fifth — not a collapse, just the normal ups and downs of a young horse learning its trade. At two years old, that is no bad thing. Many horses at this age are still working out what racing is about, and Tradewinds is already showing enough to suggest the winner's enclosure is not far away.
