Tosca No Candis

Her breakthrough came at Dundalk on 15 August, when she claimed her maiden victory. That win came six weeks ago, and since then she has been tried three times more without success, finishing fifth, fifth, and fifth — a run of form that suggests she may have found those subsequent races slightly too demanding, or that the ground and distances have not quite suited her as well as they did at Dundalk. Most recently, she raced just a day ago, which shows the yard is keeping her active and giving her regular opportunities to improve. Before that August win, she finished fifth, fifth, and seventh, so the victory broke a spell of moderate form and hinted at what she might be capable of when conditions align.

Robson De Aguiar's yard has sent out 16 winners already this season, a decent return that suggests the trainer knows how to get horses to the racecourse ready to perform. With Tosca No Candis still only two years old and with just one win under her belt, there is obvious scope for improvement as she gains experience and matures. The task now is to find the right race and conditions to bring out the form that showed itself at Dundalk, and to build on that first success.
