Tomarlo

His two victories tell a story about what suits him. The first came at Dundalk in November 2024, and the second arrived much later at Wolverhampton in July 2026, three months ago. He clearly prefers normal ground conditions, where he wins about 1 in every 7-8 races (2 wins from 15 attempts) — a rate double his overall average. This suggests he struggles when the going is either very wet or very firm, and finding him in a race on a standard surface is worth noting.

Luke McAteer rides him more often than anyone else, having partnered him nine times with one win between them — an 11% win rate, slightly better than Tomarlo's overall form. Recent form has been patchy. In his last six outings he has finished sixth, seventh, fifth, first, third, and fourth, which shows he can still compete but lacks the consistency to be a threat in stronger races. Trainer Jennie Candlish, based at Basford in Staffordshire, has had a productive season with 64 winners, so she knows how to train a winner. With Tomarlo, though, he is still hunting for a pattern — whether that pattern exists or he simply lacks the class to deliver it regularly remains an open question. For now, he remains a horse worth following only if the ground is right and the race is weak enough for a chance.
