What makes the situation worth watching, though, is who is doing the training. Dan Skelton's yard in Alcester, Warwickshire, has sent out 187 winners already this season — a number that speaks for itself. This is one of the most productive operations in the country right now, and horses that look like struggling cases in lesser hands often find their feet when the team around them knows what it is doing. Skelton has built a reputation for patient, professional development, and a 3-year-old with four races under its belt is still very early in the story.
Tiny Riot has been competing at Class 5 level — the entry-level tier of British racing — and has yet to trouble the judge there in three attempts at that grade. That is a concern, but not necessarily a damning one at this stage of a young horse's career. Some horses simply take time to find their confidence, their best distance, or the right conditions. The key question is whether those ingredients can be unlocked, and with a yard firing at the rate Skelton's is right now, it would be unwise to write Tiny Riot off entirely just yet.
