What makes the situation interesting is the yard behind it. Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith, based at High Eldwick in West Yorkshire, have sent out 42 winners this season alone — that's a busy, successful stable that clearly knows how to get horses performing. When a trainer of that calibre keeps running a horse that hasn't placed yet, it usually means they see something worth developing. Tickhill Flyer raced just yesterday, so this is very much a horse mid-journey rather than one being written off.
At three years old, there is time on its side. Plenty of horses take the better part of a season simply to figure out what racing is asking of them, and a finishing position doesn't always tell the whole story — margins, pace, and the quality of the field all matter. The question is whether the next run produces something different, because four races in, Tickhill Flyer still has plenty to prove.
