Trained by Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies at their Naunton yard in Gloucestershire — a stable that has already sent out 62 winners this season — Thelasthighking has been ridden most often by Jordan Nailor, who has steered it to two wins from 13 races together. The horse last visited the winner's enclosure on 12 April 2023 at Southwell, which means it has now gone 43 months without a win. That is a long drought. Recent form has been patchy: across its last six races, it has finished third twice and fourth twice, but also ninth once, and third again most recently. A ten-year-old with this kind of inconsistency is unlikely to rediscover the form that made it a Class 3 winner at better than one in five odds (2 wins from 9 Class 3 races). But the trainer clearly believes there is something left to find. The horse raced just a day ago and remains active — a small sign that the yard has not given up on it yet.
