Theirshegoes

The best version of Theirshegoes shows up at distances between a mile and six furlongs and two miles, where it has won 1 from 4 races — a 25% win rate that stands out sharply against everything else in its career. At that range it seems to find a rhythm, and both of its wins have come at tracks in Britain's north: Uttoxeter in June 2024, then Musselburgh the following November. That second win, at a tight, flat track on Scotland's east coast, is the most recent — now 16 months ago and counting.

Since Musselburgh, the wins have dried up. The last six races have produced nothing better than a second place, and two of those runs ended without a finishing position recorded. Theirshegoes is now coming back from a break of around three months, which means it arrives fresh but untested in its current condition. At its level — the horse typically runs in Class 4 races, one step below the top tier — it has gone 11 races without winning at that grade, which suggests the competition there is consistently just a touch too sharp.

Sandy Thomson trains out of Lambden in the Scottish Borders, and his yard has been in decent form this season with 17 winners. Lewis Dobb has ridden Theirshegoes in 10 of its races and won once together, a 10% partnership that mirrors the horse's overall record fairly closely. There's a working relationship there, but not yet a particularly productive one.

The question coming back from a break is simple: has the time off done it any good? A horse of this age with two wins from 23 races isn't going to transform into something it hasn't been before, but it has shown — twice — that it knows how to get to the line first. If the conditions are right and the distance suits, it isn't impossible. It just hasn't happened in a while.
