The Pit Popsy

The bulk of The Pit Popsy's racing has come at Class 5, which is the entry-level tier of British racing — essentially the races designed for horses who have found it hard to win elsewhere. Even at that level, the record reads zero wins from three races. That does not mean the horse is without merit, but it does suggest that picking up a first victory is going to require everything to fall right on the day.

Trained by Heather Main at Kingston Lisle in Oxfordshire, The Pit Popsy is at least in capable hands. Main's yard has sent out 16 winners already this season, which shows the operation knows how to get horses to the winner's enclosure. The question is whether The Pit Popsy can be one of them. Having raced just yesterday and still active, the yard clearly have not given up — and at eight, there is no particular reason they should. Some horses simply take time, or need conditions to break perfectly. The Pit Popsy has not found that moment yet, but the story is not over.
