Trained by Joe Tickle out of Stoodleigh in Devon, The Padster competes in Class 5, which is the entry level of British racing — the kind of races designed to give horses like this a chance to get on the board. Despite that, it has drawn a blank in all three races at that level. Tickle's yard has sent out 20 winners this season, so the operation clearly knows how to get a horse to win. The question is what needs to change for The Padster to be one of them.
The recent form figures tell a mixed story. A couple of fourth-place finishes suggest the horse isn't finishing last, and an eleventh is the kind of result that happens — but there's no obvious upward trend yet. Raced just yesterday, The Padster is very much an active project, and the team clearly hasn't given up on finding the right opportunity. Sometimes it simply takes patience, the right conditions, or a small tweak in approach. For now, though, The Padster remains one of racing's works in progress.
