The Bear of Saints

Recent form tells a mixed story. Over its last six races, the horse has shown occasional glimpses of promise — a couple of third-place finishes, a fifth, and a seventh — but also some disappointing runs further back. The most recent outing was just a day ago, and it finished third, which at least suggests the horse is still competitive enough to trouble the judge on occasion. That said, the inability to win in half a year of racing is a concern. The horse typically races at the lower grades, where wins should theoretically be within reach, yet it has failed to register a victory from three attempts at that level either.

For a 4-year-old, The Bear of Saints is still young enough to improve, and the occasional place finish shows it has some ability. But patience will be tested if the winning breakthrough does not come soon. The horse remains active and still racing, which is a good sign — it is being given chances to prove itself rather than shelved. Whether John O'Shea's yard can unlock what is needed to get this one into the winner's circle remains to be seen.
