What makes the story a little bittersweet is the partnership between Thats All and Mr D Doyle, who has ridden the horse in 20 of its 31 races. That's a long-running combination, and yet they are still waiting for their first win together — 0 from 20. When the breakthrough eventually came at Kilbeggan, it was without him. That said, 20 races is a real commitment, and it speaks to the bond between horse, rider, and yard that they have kept going this long together.
Recent form tells a familiar tale. Looking at the last six runs, the best result has been a second place, with a fifth, seventh, and eighth also in that stretch. Thats All is finishing in the first half of the field reasonably often, but converting that into a win has proved elusive. The horse raced just yesterday, which shows it is fit and active — Timothy Doyle is clearly keeping the programme ticking over, hunting for the right opportunity.
At nine, Thats All is entering the later chapters of its racing life. Horses don't tend to find new gears at this age, but they can absolutely find the right race at the right time on the right day. Kilbeggan proved that once. The yard will be hoping it proves it again.
